Hanford documentary ARID LANDS premieres at the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival
Independent documentary feature Arid Lands will premiere January 13 at the Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Nevada City, California.
First-time filmmakers Grant Aaker and Josh Wallaert spent several months living near the Hanford nuclear site in southeastern Washington, interviewing local residents about their relation to the land.
Sixty years ago, the Hanford site produced plutonium for the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki, and today it is the focus of the largest environmental cleanup in history.
Arid Lands documents this landscape of incredible contradictions. Raising conflicting ideas about wilderness and nature, the film takes audiences to one of the strangest outposts of the American West.
Arid Lands screens Saturday, January 13, at 2:35 pm at Oddfellows Hall, 212 Spring Street, Nevada City. Both directors will be present at the screening.
