Black Panther Co-Founder Bobby Seale at BAM

Opening Night of the Afro-Punk Festival presents Black Panther Co-Founder Bobby Seale in person for a discussion about the history of the movement: where it's been and where it's going. Accompanying this discussion are two historic short films from 1969 by the Newsreel Collective: May Day Panther, a document of the historic Free Huey rally in San Francisco, and Bobby Seale, an interview conducted during his imprisonment. Don't miss your chance to start the Afro-Punk weekend right, with a visit from a man who helped start it all.

Discussion is followed by a booksigning and art reception in the lobby featuring historic photographs from Stephen Shames, Black Panther-inspired work from students at the Pratt Institute, and more.

The Afro-Punk Festival, which features film, art, concerts and special events, runs June 28 to July 7 at BAM, 30 Lafayette Avenue, in addition to other venues in Brooklyn. For the complete Afro-Punk line-up visit BAM.org/Afropunk.
