Job Opportunity: Global Action Project Seeking Media Educators

Global Action Project, Inc. (G.A.P.) is seeking part-time media educators to join vibrant Urban Voices programs. The perfect person for the job is a dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic media educator.

Candidates will co-facilitate one or more of our Urban Voices programs. These are after-school for youth ages 13-21 that typically run twice a week. Candidates must commit to conducting programs from October 2007 to June 2008 for an average of 10-15 hours a week.

Responsibilities: curriculum development, workshop planning and preparation, guiding youth through a rigorous media production cycle, and documentation/assessment. Media educators are required to attend all staff development retreats and workshops, as well as program support sessions with the Program Director and weekly staff meetings.

Qualifications: Media educators must demonstrate a willingness and an ability to engage with G.A.P.’s curriculum and pedagogical approach. An approach that aims to connect youth leadership to social justice and to media analysis and production. Strong facilitation and co-facilitation skills are essential as is a demonstrated commitment to the individual, social and intellectual development of youth. Media educators must have working experience with digital video production and editing and a commitment to the aesthetic quality of their work.

Ideal candidate: The ideal candidate will be passionate about the use of media by youth for creative expression, education, activism and social change. We want out candidate to be knowledgeable about local/global social issues, and experienced in alternative educational methods and youth development best practices.

Commitment to social justice, youth empowerment, intergenerational learning and cultural engagement through media is essential.

Candidate should be comfortable in a collaborative, creative work environment with a diverse staff and youth community. Strong administrative/time management skills and a sense of humor greatly appreciated!

Part-time positions to start last week of September 2007 and end the last week of June 2008.

Applicants must be able to commit to attending the Staff Training Retreat on the following dates: October 10 – 12 and October 15 – 17, 2007. Please be prepared to bring a reel of your own media work and media produced with youth to the interview. Do NOT send work samples at this time.

Compensation: Salary is $26/hour for program and prep and $22/hour for weekly staff meetings, outreach events + an end-of-year editing fee.
