Recut, Reframe, Recycle: Quoting Copyrighted Material in User-Generated Video

Pat Aufderheide and Peter Jaszi have released an exciting new report called Recut, Reframe, Recycle: Quoting Copyrighted Material in User-Generated Video, which finds that many online videos creatively use copyrighted materials in ways that are eligible for fair use consideration under copyright law. In short, they are potentially using copyrighted material legally. These uses—an exercise of freedom-of-speech rights—are currently threatened by anti-piracy measures online.

The authors recently discussed their findings at a panel on digital rights management at the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 7 in Las Vegas, NV. The report is online here - we hope you enjoy it!

Recut, Reframe, Recycle is gaining quite a lot of attention from the press and the blogo and we'd love it if you could help us get a little more.

Here's how you can help:

- Click here to visit Slashdot and "vote up" the story called Online Video at Risk of Private Censorship. You have to log in to vote, but it only takes a second. You vote up by clicking the little plus sign next to the title.
