July 9: DocuClub in July; New York City

DocuClub in July: Wednesday, July 9, 2008, 7 p.m.

Our next DocuClub screening will take place on Wednesday, July 9, at 7 p.m., at Goldcrest Post (799 Washington Street, between Horatio and Gansevoort), in New York City's West Village. Our moderator will be Milton Tabbot, Senior Director of Programming at IFP.

Join us as we watch Danae Elon's Partly Private. The film is an intensely personal and witty look at the ritual of male circumcision. Using first-person narration, Elon documents her own pregnancy and the unexpected dilemmas she encounters with her partner and father of her unborn child. What should they do to their newborn's penis? Determined and obsessed, Elon sets out on a worldly quest to find out all she can about what "other people do." The exploration exposes in an amusing way the flaws of being human. The film is slated to be shown on Arte France, TV Ontario, TV2 Denmark, and Israel's Channel 8.

Danae Elon is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, producer and cinematographer. Her last film, Another Road Home, was a nuanced look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Released theatrically in 2005, it showed in over twenty US cities, and broadcast on the Sundance channel, BBC, Al Jazeera and Israeli television.
