December 2-5: Human Rights & Sex Trafficking Film Forum in Cambridge, MA




Recognizing the need for greater public and academic awareness of sex trafficking, this forum will explore the power of documentary film in effectuating a movement to combat commercial sexual exploitation and modern-day slavery. We will be screening 12 films at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Square, each followed by discussion panels featuring survivors, filmmakers, activists and academics.

1pm: Opening Remarks to the Film Forum by Cynthia Close, Executive Director of Documentary Educational Resources.

1:15pm: Fatal Promises | Running time: 88 min.
Fatal Promises is followed by a panel featuring Taina Bien-Aime, Executive Director of Equality Now, and the Director, Kat Rohrer.

4:30pm: Sons And Daughters: Preventing Child Trafficking In The Golden Triangle | Running time: 25 min
Sons and Daughters is followed by a Q & A with the Director, Sarah Feinbloom.

5:45pm: Sold In America | Running time: 10 min.
Introductory remarks by Cherie Jimenez, founder and director of Kim’s project. Sold in America is followed by a Q & A with survivor Maria Suarez.

7:30pm: Redlight | Running time: 72 min.
Introduction by Heather Faris, Co-Founder, Cambridge School for Cambodia. RedLight is followed by a Q & A with the Director Guy Jacobson.

12-1:30pm: Luncheon Panel hosted by The Program on Modern Day Slavery and Human Trafficking at the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Luncheon Panel features Ruchira Gupta, President of Apne Aap, and Siddharth Kara, Fellow with the Harvard Carr Center Program on Human Trafficking and Modern-Day Slavery.
* This panel is located in the Fainsod Room, third floor of the Littauer Building of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. Limited seating is available.

1:45-2:15pm: Siddharth Kara, Book signing for Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery

Up and coming filmmaker iLan Azoulai will screen the trailer for Holy Ghetto and discuss his experience filming the commercial sex trade in Israel.

12:45pm: Sands Of Silence | Running time: 14 min.
Introductory video of Chelo Alvarez-Stehle, the director of Sands of Silence, describing the creative process of developing this cross-platform project. A work-in-progress of the documentary will be shown, featuring Chelo Alvarez-Stehle’s personal journey into the trafficking of women. Followed by a Q&A with a survivor of Sands of of Silence.

2 pm: Red Leaves Falling | Running time: 24 min.
Introductory remarks by Alexandra Lawrence on behalf of Stairway Foundation.

3:15pm: Playground | Running time: 87 min.
Introductory remarks by a special VIP guest. Followed by a panel featuring the Director Libby Spears, Karen McLaughlin, chair of ISPAC’s Global Committee on the Prevention of Victimization and the Protection of Victims, Audrey Porter, Assistant Director and the Coordinator of Survivor Services of The My Life My Choice Project (MLMC), and moderated by Phillip W.D. Martin, Senior Investigative Journalist, WGBH, Boston’s NPR Station; Adjunct Faculty, Brandeis University.
