November 20: Doc Next Talkshow on a New Generation of DIY Film Talents in Amsterdam, Holland
Doc Next is a special program of IDFA (International Documentary Festival Amsterdam), featuring short documentaries by a new generation of young film talents from Europe using accessible media technologies to zoom in on their environments. For the first time, their documentaries are being shown on the big festival screen.
At the Doc Next talk show, young documentary makers take center stage. We seize their films and stories to discuss the challenges and possibilities of user-generated media content with festival organizers, media broadcasters and documentary experts. How can do-it-yourself documentaries inspire different media domains and contribute to inclusive public opinion sharing in Europe? How can this new generation of storytellers help mainstream media to attract new audiences?
ECF invited 10 talented do-it-yourself video makers to participate in the IDFAcademy, the international three day training program during IDFA for film students and emerging filmmakers. Some of them will take center stage at the Doc Next talk show on 20 November. For a preview of their work, click here.
Youth and Media program’s activities include:
* Documentary workshops and training for young people in Europe in conjunction with media and cultural partners
* Documentary focused event in collaboration with the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in Amsterdam
* Online platform for knowledge sharing, presentation and the archival of media productions including the StrangerFestival archive
* Research into media and innovation linking to youth related issues
* Grants for the development of media projects for youth
The program’s work will contribute to the creation of a European space in which new perspectives on contemporary Europe - connecting with Narratives for Europe - are shared among different audiences and that can serve as an inspiration to young media-makers, as well as professionals in politics, media and culture. For past new media work projects with emerging young talent have a look at the video archive of the StrangerFestival project, with hundreds of beautiful and interesting video online.
