Throw Down Your Heart, featuring Bela Fleck and directed by Sascha Paladino opens this Friday, April 24 at the IFC Center in NYC.  So often we see films about what is “wrong” in Africa. “Not all stories coming from Africa have to tell of bloodshed and displacement, and Sascha Paladino’s Throw Down Your Heart shows how the power of music can unite disparate cultures.” —Tiny Mix Tapes By David Harris June, 2008

Throw Down Your Heart follows the multiple Grammy Award-winning banjo player Bela Fleck on his journey to Africa to explore the early roots of the banjo. Bela’s boundary-breaking musical adventure takes him to Uganda, Tanzania, The Gambia, and Mali. Using his banjo, Bela transcends barriers of language and culture, finding common ground and forging connections with musicians from very different backgrounds.
