Filmmaker of FORGET ME NOTS and DAUGHTER OF SUICIDE Seeking PT Outreach & Marketing Intern for Grassroots Screening Tour
Independent Documentary Filmmaker Seeks Part Time Outreach and Marketing Intern (this is NOT a production job!)
I am an award winning documentary filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York who is putting together a Grassroots Screening Tour of two films that I made. I am seeking an intern who can research and contact the organizations and individuals that are the foundation of the audience for the tour—I have relationships with some and want to start relationships with others. Excellent writing and phone skills are a must. This person must also be computer savvy, be able to employ critical thinking skills, work quickly & independently (tele-communting is OK) and represent my work in a professional way. Knowledge of Excel and/or FileMaker are a plus.
This is an opportunity to get hands on experience for a very small company (rather than answering phones at a big firm) and would be ideal for someone studying marketing/outreach and/or a documentary film student who wants to learn what grass roots distribution is all about. To learn more about the films that will be part of the tour and my other work please visit www.dempseyrice.com
I am looking for someone who can commit to ten hours/week. Compensation is very low. If you are interested in applying for the position please email references, a writing sample, a resume and a cover letter stating your experience (as a student or professional), why you are interested in working for a small production company, why you want to learn more about documentary distribution and outreach and what you bring to the table. Please do not send a boiler plate cover letter—this is your chance to tell me something about yourself and to show me you can craft a letter that represents/pitches a service (you!).
Thank you!

The Gathering the Memories Grassroots Screening Tour is a public screening campaign of two films by Dempsey Rice – Daughter of Suicide (2000) and Forget Me Nots (2010). This tour will put these two films into the hands of local and grassroots individuals and institutions (as screening hosts) that are part of the suicide survivor and suicide prevention communities.
The Gathering the Memories Grassroots Screening Tour encourages survivors of suicide to move beyond simply surviving and into thriving after the suicide of their loved one. It will help people seek out, discover and document the stories and memories that friends and family hold about individuals who died by suicide. This Gathering process is informative (as a way of learning MORE about someone who is no longer living), is empowering (it gives the survivor some much needed control in the grief process) and is healing (it gives survivors the opportunity to talk, explore, and learn about the person who is gone – if a survivor goes deep enough, he or she can “enter into a conversation” with the individual who died and begin to integrate that suicide into a new way of living).
