June 15 - September 7: Play Farm in Oregon!
This summer a small bit of land in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon, is being transformed into a film/video/media making retreat. There is a stream, a 2 bedroom house and a few guest houses, as well as a barn/art studio. There is also a small field where we will be casually growing things to eat.
Why Play Farm?
The basic idea is to enjoy an inviting and distraction-free place to work on projects in a balanced (not spending all day staring at a computer screen) way.
The other part of the plan is to create an environment where we can become more connected to the food we eat. Watching our vegetables sprout and ripen before we devour them is a big part of this, so it will serve as a bit of a crash course in (very) small-scale food production as well.
Location: Marcola, Oregon 30 minutes east of Eugene.
Details: 1.5 acres of land, includes young (but fruit-bearing) orchard, herb and vegetable gardens, stream for wading and swimming, compost, chickens!, jewelry-making studio, barn/art studio: large group workroom and work table, two small private workrooms, gathering area for classes and events. Internet, with the exception of Verizon, most cell phones do not get service.
Accomodations: 1 single bedroom, 1 double bedroom, 1 guest house. Depending on time and length of stay, additional guest houses may be available.
What to bring: Work clothes, play clothes, swim suit, shoes that can get dirty. Towels and linens are provided. Bring your laptop, camera, notebook, and whatever else you need to get your project done.
Meals: Mealtime is a shared affair. You do not need to be a master chef, but everyone at the Play Farm helps in the preparation and consumption of food.
The Play Farm runs from June 15-September 7.
Come: Please send the dates and length of time you’d like to come, what you hope to accomplish, the vegetable you can’t wait to watch grow, and a brief bio, with subject: Play Farm in Oregon, to epiperburket@gmail.com
Economics: $350/week, $1100/month. Price covers operating costs for accommodations, utilities and food for shared meals. That said, we all know that this is a difficult time economically speaking. Feel free to inquire about creative financing options.
Space is limited, register early.
