Who is John Perkins
John Perkins’ latest book, Hoodwinked, published by Random House in November 2009, is a blueprint for a new form of global economics. The solutions are not “return to normal” ones. Instead, John challenges us to soar to new heights, away from predatory capitalism and into an era more transformative than the Agricultural and Industrial Revolutions.
John’s Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, which spent nearly a year and a half on the New York Times bestseller lists and has been published in more than 30 languages, is a startling exposé of international corruption. His The Secret History of the American Empire, also a New York Times bestseller, details the clandestine operations that created the world’s first truly global empire.
John is founder and board member of Dream Change and The Pachamama Alliance, nonprofit organizations devoted to establishing a world our children will want to inherit, has lectured at universities on four continents and is the author of books on indigenous cultures and transformation.
John Perkins on the Power of Film
A powerful medium that has the potential of reaching global audiences and using music, visuals, and words to convey messages that can change the way people think and act.
John Perkins’ Picks
Crude Impact: Tells the story of Texaco’s criminal abuse of the Amazon and in doing so says a great deal about modern corporate power.
Dreamland: The outrageous deal struck between Alcoa Aluminum and a few government officials in Iceland which brought a country ranked by the World Bank as the 3rd richest (per capita in 2007) to bankruptcy.
Apology of an Economic Hit Man: Traces the CIA-orchestrated assassinations of Ecuador’s president Jaime Roldos and Panama’s Omar Torrijos and exposes the underbelly of modern US imperialism.
Zeitgeist Addendum: Has reached millions of people with a message about current economic exploitation.
Milk: Brilliant docu-drama about the terrible impacts of prejudice and the power of courage.
