The Culture Project Presents JAMES X December 6-18
Performances are coming up December 6th - December 18th at 45 Bleecker Theater.
James X is a searing indictment of neglect; both of the individual and of the institutions responsible for protecting and inspiring its citizens. In the last decade, the Catholic Church and State institutions in Ireland and throughout the world have been in the center of an emerging secret history involving the sexual abuse and torment of thousands of vulnerable children. This play is the human story of one of those children trying to overcome his dark past who, in doing so, reveals the human spirit’s magnificent resilience.

An Irish government tribunal of inquiry into the institutions responsible for the cruel and inhumane treatment of children is in session. In the foyer, James X, once one of those children, is now a man anxiously preparing the testimony he hopes will unshackle him from the past. As he waits, James recognizes the tribunal he is about as part of the very same system that made prisoners of children like him. Confronting this truth prompts him to tell the story which will finally set him free.
James X, a Farcry Production, features Gerard Mannix Flynn, who also starred in the production when it premiered in Dublin in 2009. It is presented as part of Imagine Ireland, Culture Ireland’s year of Irish arts in America.
