About Us

SHaKTI PRODUCTIONS, LLC is a women-run and women-owned group that began in 1989 with a vision for gender and social justice. This vision has translated into activism, community education and community organizing around ending violence against women and girl children. As vision and practice, SHaKTI PRODUCTIONS, LLC:

- produces and distributes video documentaries and resource books for use by activists and community educators nationally and internationally,
- conducts community workshops nationally and internationally to re-examine definitions of domestic violence and raise awareness about incestuous sexual abuse in South Asian communities,
- assists service-provider organizations and community groups with capacity-building through training of trainers to address attitudinal barriers against marginalized battered women and survivors of incestuous sexual abuse,
- produces documentaries for other agencies and organizations engaged in ending interpersonal and institutionalized violence against women and girl children.

Video Activism and Advocacy

SHaKTI's 3-fold purpose is to:

1. document women's lives and struggles within and outside the US,
2. use art as advocacy to confront public and private violence against women,
3. challenge the power hierarchies between image-makers and the "imaged."
