Y-Press ...

- is a nonprofit youth-media organization that stresses youth development and leadership skills. It is located downtown, in The Indianapolis Star building.
- began as a Children's Express bureau in 1990. In November 1999, renamed Y-Press, it became an independent news bureau with operations continuing at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis. In 2004, Y-Press left the museum and became an independent nonprofit organization, which it remains today.
- is a youth-driven organization that gives children a voice in the world through journalism. Members build communication skills by producing stories with a youth perspective.
- produces column that appears in The Indianapolis Star (348,000 circulation) bimonthly in editorial's Voices section. Stories and other media are researched, reported and written by reporters (ages 10-13) and editors (ages 14-18) for audiences of all ages and on WFYI-FM (90.1).
- has a Web site that is updated regularly and encourages external submissions and comments about youth-written stories and reviews. It can be accessed from The Star's Web site (http://www.indystar.com/voices) or Y-Press's Web site (http://www.ypress.org). Each story remains on The Star's site for seven days, and then is added to the archives, which are available from 1999 to the present.
